Welcome to Backwood.app ("Backwood," "we," "us," or "our"), a social media platform for outdoor enthusiasts to post public meetups, location markers, and share local trails, points of interest, and compete with friends. By using Backwood.app, you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.

• Eligibility: You must be at least 13 years old to use Backwood.app. By using the app, you confirm that you meet this age requirement and have the legal capacity to agree to these terms.
• User Content: You may publicly share videos, photos, meetups, and location markers (e.g., trails, fishing spots). You can also create friend-only spots visible only to selected users. You retain ownership of your content, but by posting, you grant Backwood a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, transferable license to use, display, reproduce, and distribute your content within the app to provide and promote our services.
• Content Responsibility: You are solely responsible for the content you post. Content must not violate any laws, infringe on intellectual property rights, or be offensive, harmful, defamatory, or inappropriate. Backwood reserves the right to remove content or suspend accounts that violate these terms at our sole discretion.
• Account Bans and Suspensions: Backwood reserves the right to ban or suspend any user at any time, with or without notice, for violating these terms or engaging in behavior we deem harmful to the platform or its community, at our sole discretion.
• No Harassment or Threats: You may not use Backwood to harass, bully, intimidate, or threaten other users. This includes posting abusive, hateful, or threatening content or engaging in behavior that causes distress or harm to others.
• Compliance with Local Laws: You must comply with all applicable local, state, and federal laws when using Backwood. This includes respecting laws related to trespassing, public safety, and environmental regulations when sharing meetups or location markers.
• No Private Property Markers or Routes: You may not post location markers, routes, or meetups on private property without explicit permission from the property owner. Backwood is not liable for any legal consequences arising from trespassing or unauthorized access.
• Additional Prohibited Conduct: You may not:
  • Impersonate another person, organization, or entity, or misrepresent your identity or affiliations.
  • Post or share content that promotes violence, self-harm, or illegal activities.
  • Share explicit, obscene, or pornographic content.
  • Post false or misleading information that could endanger users, such as inaccurate trail or location data.
  • Engage in any activity that exploits, harms, or endangers minors.
• Meetups and Markers: Meetups and location markers you post are public by default unless designated as friend-only. You agree to share location-based information responsibly and not to post misleading, unsafe, or illegal locations. Backwood is not liable for any incidents arising from meetups or location-based activities.
• Credits and Prizes: Backwood may offer virtual credits for challenges, competitions, achievements, or other activities. Credits have no real-world monetary value, cannot be redeemed for cash, and are for in-app play only. Credits can be used to claim prizes, but prize availability, value, and terms may be changed, modified, or discontinued at Backwood’s sole discretion without notice. Credit payouts for challenges, competitions, or achievements are subject to change or cancellation at any time.
• Prohibited Conduct: You agree not to use Backwood to harass, spam, defraud, or engage in illegal activities. You may not attempt to hack, disrupt, reverse-engineer, or misuse the app or its services. Automated bots or scripts are prohibited without prior written consent from Backwood.
• Account Termination: We may suspend or terminate your account for any reason, including violation of these terms, without notice or liability. You may delete your account at any time, which will remove your posts and chat messages from our servers.
• Limitation of Liability: Backwood is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We are not liable for any damages, losses, or injuries arising from your use of the app, including but not limited to reliance on content, meetups, or location markers posted by users. You use Backwood at your own risk.
• Indemnification: You agree to indemnify and hold Backwood, its affiliates, and employees harmless from any claims, damages, or liabilities arising from your use of the app, your content, or your violation of these terms.
• Changes to Terms: We may update these Terms of Use at any time. Changes will be posted on this page, and continued use of the app constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

Privacy Policy

At Backwood.app, we prioritize transparency and user control. All data shared on Backwood is public by default unless designated as friend-only, and we collect minimal private information (only an email address, where provided). This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information.

• Minimal Data Collection: Backwood collects only an email address when explicitly provided (e.g., for account creation or Android beta sign-up). No other personal or private information, such as your name or other identifiable data, is collected or stored unless voluntarily provided.
• Public Data: Videos, photos, meetups, and location markers you post are public by default and visible to all users unless set as friend-only. You acknowledge that public content is accessible to anyone using the app and assume all risks associated with sharing such content.
• Friend-Only Content: Friend-only spots and messages are restricted to your selected friends. You control who can view this content, and you can delete it at any time.
• Chat Messages: Private chat messages are stored temporarily to facilitate communication. You can wipe your chat messages at any time, and they will be permanently deleted from our servers.
• Location Data: If you share location markers or meetups, this information is stored to display on the app. Public markers are visible to all users, while friend-only markers are restricted. You control what location data you share and can delete it at any time. Backwood is not responsible for the accuracy or safety of shared locations.
• Credits Data: Information related to virtual credits (e.g., credits earned or used for prizes) is stored to manage in-app activities. This data has no real-world value and is used solely for gameplay purposes.
• No Third-Party Sharing: We do not sell, trade, or share your content or data with third parties for marketing or other purposes, except as required to provide our services (e.g., hosting providers) or comply with legal obligations.
• Data Deletion: You can delete your posts, chat messages, or entire account at any time through the app’s settings. Deleted data is permanently removed from our servers within a reasonable timeframe, except where retention is required by law.
• Cookies and Analytics: Our website may use cookies for basic functionality and anonymized analytics to improve user experience. No personal data is collected through cookies, and you can disable them in your browser settings.
• Security: We implement reasonable measures to protect your data, but no system is completely secure. You acknowledge the risks of sharing information online and agree that Backwood is not liable for unauthorized access or data breaches.
• Changes to Policy: We may update this Privacy Policy at any time. Changes will be posted on this page, and continued use of the app constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
